The Music of the World Award (MWA), not to be confused
with the World Music Awards (WMA) is an international awards that annually
honors recording artists that recorded outstanding albums in the field
of World Music, not on their worldwide sales figures.
The 7th MokumTV Awards for World Music, that took place in Amsterdam Westerpark on
the first hour of 1th Jauary. This annual celebration has become a fixture
on the World Music Calendar.
Never a competition was more close as the voting-period
ended on December 29
GMT. How
close it all was: the differendes between nuber 1 and number 2 in the
category Best African CD with a total of 7409 was just 3 votes!

The
awards show is conducted under the patronage of MokumTV, the Netherlands,
since 1982 broadcasting on what is now the UPC A1 cable network from Amsterdam.
MokumTV is the executive producer and co-founder of the annual MWA.. Before
2005 only fhe Legend Awards
were broadcasted on the Amsterdam
A1 Channel. In 2003 the late Jacques Brel was the winner. |

Voting Procedure |

The 2008 edition of MokumTV's Music of the World Award was held at the
Amsterdam Westerpark and reached a worldwide audience in Africa, the
Middle East, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North and South America and
Europe on internet, cable-network and independent broadcasters.
So push the agenda towards voting for next years award.
The voting procedure was coordinated byAnnemieke Telkamp of MokumTV.
- The World's best World Music artists in the
various categories are determined by internet-voting of the audience
and a jury, not on record company sales figures.
- Only one votation per IP is accepted.

Public could make sugestions for one or more of the sections by sending a mail mention
- the categories to make nominations
- the name of the artist or group
- name of the album
- country of origin
A special Legend Awards was given to artists in recognition
of their global success and outstanding contribution to World Music. In
2006 the winner was the truely legendary Moroccan musicgroup Nass el-Ghiwan.
In 2007 the same Nass el-Ghiwan was nominated by the BBC
Radio 3. The MokumTV winner 2007 was the immortal voice of Egypt
Oum Kalsoum. |

Between December 3 and 17, 2007: Public could suggest jury-members
till friday November 30 2007 12.00 GMT.
- The internet voting started on Monday December
3 2007 12.00 GMT and was terminated
December 28, 2007 12.00 pm GMT. The Polls are to be found on this website.
Only one votation per IP was accepted. People using the internetcafé
could mail their preference.

The 2007 7th Awards |

The 7th MokumTV Awards for World Music took place in Amsterdam Westerpark
on 31th December.
This annual celebration originated from the annual European
Worlmusiclist provided by Disques Pastor. Back in 1975 Karel Pastor and
Cees Siekerman of Disques Pastor in Paris/Haarlem had running an album
poll in the shops to find out the best of World Music that year. Since
it was broadcasted by MokumTV in 2001 it has
become a fixture on the World Music Calendar. This year you can experience
the awards with live broadcasts, a webcast and video on demand available
after the event.
